(AsiaGameHub) –   Maryland’s six casinos generated a combined $172.2 million in slot machine and table game revenue during April 2026. This marks a 5.9% increase compared to April 2025, representing the highest monthly performance of the fiscal year to date.

Casinos See a Rise in Revenue

Despite April’s strong showing, total casino revenue for the first ten months of Fiscal Year 2026 reached $1.6 billion, reflecting a 1.4% decline from the same period last year, with state contributions also dipping slightly.

State contributions totaled $72.5 million, including $52.3 million directed to the Education Trust Fund, both of which experienced year-over-year growth. Casino revenue further supports local communities, the horse racing industry, and small, minority-, and women-owned businesses across Maryland.

MGM National Harbor led in revenue with nearly $74 million, marking a 7.8% increase from April 2025. The casino operates almost 2,300 slot machines and over 200 table games.

Live! Casino & Hotel followed as the second-highest revenue generator, reporting just over $63 million, a 7.4% rise from April 2025. Together, these two venues accounted for the majority of April’s total casino revenue.

The Horseshoe Casino contributed just over $15 million, a slight 3% decrease from the prior year. Hollywood Casino and Ocean Downs Casino each reported approximately $7.5 million, though Hollywood saw a 4.7% drop while Ocean Downs posted a 5.5% increase compared to April 2025.

Rocky Gap Casino rounded out the list with nearly $4.5 million, reflecting a 7.1% increase from the previous year.

How Has the Gambling Sector Developed in Maryland?

Maryland currently operates six licensed casinos and offers sports betting, including mobile options. In November 2008, voters approved a constitutional amendment allowing slot machines at five designated locations statewide. Four years later, in November 2012, voters passed an expansion permitting table games at all casinos, enabling 24-hour operations, and authorizing a sixth casino in Prince George’s County.

All six Maryland casinos opened between September 2010 and December 2016. The Video Lottery Facility Location Commission, created in 2009, assigned operating licenses to each of the state’s casino operators. Sports betting was legalized in 2020, with mobile platforms launching in 2022.

However, real-money online casinos remain prohibited despite repeated legislative attempts to legalize them. Sweepstakes-based gambling has also drawn scrutiny, with recent House Bill proposing a ban on sweepstakes and related forms of wagering deemed “illegal.”
