He bought the ticket at Clyde Park Fuel, located at 2354 Clyde Park Avenue Southwest in Grand Rapids. When speaking about his historic win, the man recalled the chain of events that led to his good fortune, explaining that he reinvested his small initial win because he had a feeling something bigger was coming.

“I buy a $2 ticket every now and then, but I almost never play the $20 games. While I was waiting for my gas tank to fill up, I won $20, so I headed back inside to claim that win. I thought about getting two $10 tickets with my new winnings, but the $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier ticket grabbed my attention, so that’s the one I went for,” he told lottery officials when he went to collect his prize, and he selected the lump-sum payout of $1.3 million.

Persistent Lottery Play Often Pays Off

This winning story is not as uncommon as you might think. Just earlier this month, another man purchased several lottery tickets, and it was his third attempt that turned into a win, ultimately leaving him with a $1,000,000 lottery jackpot.

This second winner also chose the lump-sum option and took home $693,000. Like the $2 million winner, he was also in his 40s, and he bought his lucky ticket at Main Street Convenience Inc, located at 402 S. Main St. in Ann Arbor. He tried two tickets first that won nothing, before turning his third ticket into a seven-figure win.
